Moving On

I grew up in a Military family. We usually moved every three years. I always hated leaving my friends, but I looked forward to new friends and new adventures. When I got married we moved about every three or four years. Luckily most of those moves were in the same general area. We did venture down to Florida for four years. 20 years ago we left Florida and headed back to Illinois to family and friends. 19 years ago we bought a house that was a repo and cleaned it up, painted it and settled in.
Recently the DH has been wanting to sell the house and move on. Finally after dragging my feet as long as I could, the house was listed. It sold in 8 days. The buyers want position in 30 days, which is March 31st. I am packing. Not happily. Not looking forward to a new adventure. But packing anyway.
Last year we did a lot of work on the house. My favorite...my sewing room.

The kitchen isn't bad either.

Leaving it all behind for a tiny apartment with microscopic closets. Hopefully we can find another house to fix up. Maybe the next house will help me stop feeling sad over leaving this house. Well I better suck it up and go pack something. Wish me luck.

  1. Sometimes it is hard to do what we don't want to do! I am glad your house sold so quickly but this is a fast "pack it up and move"! Finding another house to fix up will be a wonderful adventure! Best of luck to you Beth.

  3. Can you insist on another great sewing room in the next house? Good luck with your move and I hope you find another house you love even more.

  5. Moving is a lot of work. I use to move every few years, at first it was fun but after the 5th or 6th, it was just lots of work. I never made any close friends because I knew we would be moving again but once we settled, it was nice being in the same place for so long. Hope it turns into a fun adventure with great new friends, not too far from old friends and an even better sewing room. Best of luck with everything!

  6. Seems like you just redid that sewing room.

You are much more cheerful about this than I would be. (I hate moving because it reminds me how much stuff I'm hanging on to that I oughtn't.)

Are you staying in the same area or does DH want to leave the state too? Good luck with the move!

  7. I'm terrible at moving. Don't enjoy the process at all. I hope you find a home where you can put down roots and create a wonderful sewing space.

I'm right behind you. Going to list the house next week.

  9. It would be hard for me to leave my sewing room but yours? I'd camp out in there and refuse to move. The new owners can just rent you that space, right? But good luck with the next home. I know you'll come to love it, no matter the journey getting there. And this time you'll have blogging friends to cheer you along in the packing, unpacking, refinishing and all other drama!

  10. As one that hasn't moved in 30 years, I feel for ya! I can't imagine having to go through all my stuff and either pack it or get rid of it. Good luck on the house hunt. You should know what you are looking for my now, LOL! Hold out for a really great sewing room. You deserve it!

  11. Yikes! 8 days!!! I sure wouldn't be prepared for that. Are you going to stay in the same general area? I want to move, but DH doesn't want to. So, guess what! We're not moving - yet anyway. Good luck. Hope you find a house you love, and I'm sure you will have a good sewing room as a top priority!
